NASENI, EBONYI STATE TO COLLABORATE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF GENERAL AGRICULTURAL CLUSTERS, OTHER AREAS OF INDUSTRIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and the Ebonyi State Government have agreed to work together to promote Industrial Clusters put in place by the State and other areas of industrial and technological innovations going on in the State
The Executive Governor of Ebonyi State Engr. Dr. David Nweze Umahi has said that his government was ready to collaborate with NASENI in all areas of the Agency’s interventions as the State needed nothing less than industrial revolution which has already began.
The governor disclosed this when NASENI’s Executive Vice Chairman/Chief Executive, Engr. Prof. Mohammed Sani Haruna and his management team paid the Governor courtesy visit recently.
After the EVC’s presentation, the Governor said he was amazed to note that NASENI had all it takes to develop Nigeria.
According to him, sometimes “we do not know what we need as a nation. After Education and Health, the most important instrument for development is science and technology and NASENI is a living example. I want for Ebonyi State everything that NASENI has to offer. I am no longer contented with the equipment only, I want an enviable technology warehouse, workshops and training centers which NASENI and Ebonyi State will manage together.
Governor Umahi said he wanted every sectors of the State’s economy to be activated, adding that if Nigeria fails to work then the nation and the people will continue to go backwards. “It is only investment in research and science like this which will make other nations become interested in our country. It is the process of doing things for ourselves “.
Governor Umahi stressed that having a profession without deploying it into meaningful developments has no meaning.
“We have a very big appetite for collaboration. We need an Agency like NASENI to come and help develop the State”, he said”.
The Governor also pointed out that the greatest problem Nigerians have is laziness. ” We need to give our youths opportunities and sense of patriotism. We are willing and I’m in a hurry to collaborate with NASENI and we need everything. Any of the warehouses or sites can be used as a take off. We want our nation to develop because when the nation is developed, individuals automatically also are developed “
Earlier in his presentation, Prof. Haruna commended the governor of Ebonyi State for the industrial and technological revolution going on in the State even as he said the Governor was the best.
While highlighting the achievements and Interventions of NASENI in key sectors of the nation’s economy, he said NASENI in many areas could collaborate with Ebonyi state.
He however promised that he would recommend to Mr. President that Ebonyi State deserves one of the newly approved institutes while noting that already a lot of innovations are going on in the State.
The possible areas of collaboration between NASENI and Ebonyi include the development of Agricultural clusters in Ebonyi state like the rice mill, fish processing facilities, wood processing amongst others.
